	About Us The Fostering Connection started with a group of four psychotherapists, moved by the plight of foster-affected children who rarely received the consistent, long-term therapy they needed to successfully confront the years of trauma, abandonment and loss they faced. Calling themselves The Children’s Psychotherapy Project, each of the four founding therapists resolved to provide therapy to one child in foster care—at no cost—and to continue to see that child, regardless of ability to pay, indefinitely. The project accepted its first referral in 2001, and in September of 2004, incorporated as The Fostering Connection, a 501c3 not-for-profit corporation. Since then, the organization has grown, expanding to serve a variety of needs in the Child Welfare system, but remains committed to offering foster-affected children, youth and families a long-term healing relationship. We now have more than 40 active volunteer therapists in three boroughs and provide consultation support to a diverse range of helping professionals working with foster-affected populations. We have provided free psychotherapy to over 100 young people and families.
