TFC IS SEEKING AN EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR
The Fostering Connection is a nonprofit organization that provides psychotherapy for children, youth and families affected by the foster care system, and consultation to the professionals who support them. We are a small non-profit (current budget is under $200,000) seeking a part-time (21 hrs/wk) Executive Director who understands the challenges of growing an organization in the current fiscal climate. The Executive Director will be responsible for a range of administrative, fiscal, fundraising, programmatic, and communications tasks, and will support the active engagement of the Board of Directors. Supervisory and management experience, preferably in the nonprofit sector, is required, along with demonstrated success in fundraising. Budgeting, collaboration and facilitating organizational transitions are all necessary capacities. Prior clinical experience is a plus; appreciation of the value of therapeutic work and the therapeutic relationship is crucial.
Title: Executive Director (21 hours)
Reports to: Board of Directors
The Executive Director of The Fostering Connection will have the following responsibilities:
Administrative:
- Ensures the smooth day-to-day operation of the organization
- Supervise and supports staff, consultants, and volunteers
- Maintains efficient administrative system
Financial:
In collaboration with the Board, ensures the financial stability of the organization:
- Develops a detailed annual budget
- Manages income and expenditures in accordance with the budget
Development:
In collaboration with the Board, ensures that adequate funding is in place to meet organizational needs:
- Develops and implements a fundraising plan for the organization
- Takes an active role in identifying and cultivating new funding sources and maintaining relationships with existing funders
- Writes grant proposals and manages all reporting and correspondence with funders
- Oversees fundraising activities such as special events, annual and other solicitations
Programming:
Ensures effective and appropriate development and implementation of TFC programming:
- Expands program services and develops necessary processes and monitoring tools.
- Provides oversight of program activities, works to improve their quality and develops new programs or services
- Creates, maintains, and expands a referral network to ensure clinicians have access to the resources and services required of their treatment case
- Develops collaborations and partnerships within the child welfare and clinical communities
- Develops and implements periodic program evaluation activities
Board Relations:
Supports the active engagement of the Board and provides them with the information they need to fulfill their governance role:
- Promotes the clear articulation of Board member roles and responsibilities and advises Board on need for new Board members, formation of specific Board Committees, etc.
- Prepares regular reports and communications to the Board
- Develops agenda for and facilitates quarterly Board meetings
- Initiates and implements strategic planning processes
Communication and Outreach:
In cooperation with the Board, works to increase TFC’s visibility within the larger child welfare and clinical communities:
- Serves as the public face of TFC to the child welfare and clinical communities, acting as spokesperson at conferences, in public forums and with the media
- Promotes visibility and support through ongoing networking with referral agencies, potential corporate and community partners and other funding sources
- Pursues collaborations and partnerships for expanding services.
- Oversees the development of written and online communications, including website, social networking, informational brochures, etc.
- Promotes and supports development of papers and presentations of clinical work at conferences and other public forums
Skills and Qualifications:
- Supervisory and management experience, preferably in the nonprofit sector
- Strong written and verbal communication
- Excellent interpersonal skills
- Demonstrated success in fundraising
- Facilitative leadership and skill at participative decision-making
- Excellent problem solving skill
- Knowledge and understanding of the child welfare system
- Familiarity with public funding mechanisms
- Demonstrated ability in budgeting
- Demonstrated ability in facilitating organizational transition
- Deep appreciation of the value of therapeutic work and the therapeutic relationship; prior clinical experience is a plus
- Energy, enthusiasm and an optimistic attitude
- Action oriented
